Our Unique Cultural Lego Program

Whakatipu Taonga, Our Cultural LEGO Programme

Whakatipu Taonga is a hands-on cultural learning programme that uses LEGO, creativity and storytelling to help tamariki and rangatahi explore identity, whakapapa, culture and belonging. Participants build meaningful creations inspired by their cultural heritage, whānau, community, values and stories, while developing communication, problem-solving, teamwork, confidence and creative thinking. Each activity creates opportunities for kōrero, cultural learning and self-expression in an engaging environment where young people can learn through play. Whakatipu Taonga supports participants to strengthen their mana, dignity, confidence and sense of self, while encouraging tino rangatiratanga, self-determination, by giving them ownership over their ideas, stories, choices and creations.

Programs For All Ages And Backgrounds

Our community programs are designed for everyone, regardless of age or background. We aim to strengthen individuals, families, and communities by creating inclusive spaces where everyone feels welcome and valued. Whether you're a child, a teenager, an adult, or a senior, there's a place for you to connect and grow with us. Our programmes are for tamariki, rangatahi, young people, adults, parents, whānau and families from all walks of life. We work with Māori, First Nations and Torres Strait Islander peoples, Pasifika peoples, culturally diverse communities, and anyone seeking culturally responsive mentoring, learning, connection or personal development. We also work alongside schools, Youth Justice, community organisations, government and non-government services, caseworkers and other professionals supporting their clients. Whether someone is seeking stronger cultural identity, confidence, wellbeing, healthier relationships, practical life skills, positive behaviour change or greater tino rangatiratanga, self-determination, our programmes meet people where they are and support them towards their individual goals and aspirations.

Benefits of Participation

Participating in our programmes provides a culturally grounded space to strengthen identity, confidence, relationships and overall wellbeing. Through mentoring, cultural learning, mahi toi, raranga, waiata, kapa haka, hākinakina, kai and connection with te taiao, participants build practical skills, develop self-awareness, strengthen cultural connection and work towards their own goals and aspirations. Our approach supports mana, a person’s dignity, authority, standing and sense of self-worth, while strengthening tino rangatiratanga, self-determination and the ability to have greater control and responsibility over the direction of one’s own life. Participants are supported to recognise their strengths, make informed choices, build positive connections and create pathways towards wellbeing, belonging and a stronger future.
